The secret Kalim beach is located in the north part of Phuket, just behind a small rocky collapse in the northern part of Patong Beach. Why is it secret? Because many consider it to be just an extension of Patong, however, it is a separate beach that stretches for almost 2km. It is marked on maps, and also has its own distinctive features.

The entire beach is located along the road connecting several western beaches from Karon to Surin. Kalim Beach can be technically divided into 2 parts - southern (closest to Patong) and northern. The northern part is completely unsuitable for swimming - even at high tide, the coastline is narrow, and the bottom is strewn with sharp stones right from the coast.

The southern part of Kalim Beach is separated from the northern by scattered rocky fragments (in fact, it is also separated from Patong in the same way). Here, in the southern part of Kalim Beach, the sand is beautifully bright yellow, and the entry into the sea at high tide is gentle. Since there are large boulders on the beach, flocks of fish gather near them, and relatively large crabs crawl at the bottom - this rich marine fauna can be seen if you dive with a mask.

There are shops and cafes right across the street from the beach. During the day, you can buy much needed refreshing drinks, snacks, and immediately return to the water's edge. But in the evening, we highly recommend dining at one of the coastal restaurants and enjoying the breathtaking sunset views over the sea.

On the promenade along Kalim Beach at sunset, local vendors arrange trolley cafes and sell traditional Thai street food - skewers (from 20 baht per skewer), Thai fried chicken (from 50 baht per serving), pad thai (from 70 baht per serving), as well as delicious fried ice cream (a small serving will cost about 100 baht). Thai locals themselves love to have picnics at sunset right on the beach! Join this tradition and feel the full colorfulness and flavor of Thai evenings!

Seasonality, waves

Like most beaches on the west coast of Phuket, Kalim is prone to seasonality. Swimming in the southern part of this beach will be comfortable during the "high" season - from November to March. But from April to October this beach is only suitable for surfers who like big waves and are not afraid to take risks to surf around large rocks.

The water temperature remains in the range of 26 to 32 degrees Celsius.

The northern part of Kalim is not suitable for swimming at all. However, here you can rent a boat to get to Freedom Beach.

Who it will suit

Kalim Beach is a continuation of Patong - the loudest, most crowded beach in Phuket, where the party never stops. Therefore, young lovers of club life, regulars at bars and restaurants prefer to live in this area. We also recommend this area for those who like to combine beach holidays and shopping - the beach is located next to the new Jungceylon shopping center in Patong with many restaurants and boutiques to satisfy all of your desires.

How to get here

Getting to Kalim Beach is not difficult - from the old town, for example, there is a regular public transport - pink or blue buses called songthaews. You will need to figure out the fare system, but the cost of one trip will be only about 50 baht.

Kalim can also be reached by walking along Patong promenade beside the sea. A walk from the epicenter of entertainment to Kalim beach will take 25-30 minutes.

It is worth remembering that the most convenient way to get around Phuket is on a rented car or bike.

Keep in mind that Kalim Beach is connected to Patong. Therefore, if you are getting an apartment or a hotel room in the northern part of Patong, Kalim is most likely the area the accommodations are in. Despite the proximity to noisy Bangla Road and all the entertainment venues, the area is considered pretty quiet.
