Cape Panwa is located at the southeastern part of Phuket Island. Cape Panwa is loved by visitors from Europe, Australia, and the USA, however, it is utterly unpopular with Russian tourists. Thai locals also love this part of Phuket.

There are three observation decks, a port for mooring ships and boats, fairly high-class hotels, private villa complexes, and the wonderful Ao Yon Beach.

Water sports fans can go kayaking or paddleboarding here as the water is crystal clear with excellent visibility even at greater depth. Conveniently, there is also a diving school.

If you are planning to stay at Cape Panwa, or just visit for a walk, be sure to add the observation deck at the Khao-Khad Views Tower to your "must-see" list. This is the only observation point in Phuket that offers a 360-degree panoramic view of the southeast coast of the island. Tourists are rarely seen at the tower, so no one will bother you while you enjoy the breathtaking view. At the foot of the tower there is a small area where you can sit on a bench under the shade of tropical trees and take a much-needed break from the scorching heat.

Additionally in Panwa, along the coast, there is the Kao Khad View Point. It offers a magnificent view of the south of Phuket and the majestic snow-white Big Buddha sitting on the hill.

The third observation deck is located almost at the most southeastern point of the island - Cape Panwa View Point (Kao Khad View Point). Here you will find a short but stylish promenade with beautiful cafes and shops. As you walk along, you can admire the views of the boundless ocean, glistening boats, and breathe in the fresh sea air.

Boats, that can take you to the neighboring small islands, are moored right next to the embankment.  

Waves and seasonality

Ao Yon Beach never experiences waves. The water temperature ranges from 27 to 33 degrees Celsius. Swimming here is always comfortable, the sand is fine, light, with rare shells and pebbles. Walking barefoot on the beach is very pleasant, and entering the sea is safe and easy. The coastline is wide, but there isn’t much natural shade as along the entire coastline, for almost 700 meters, mini-hotels and private properties stretch. Therefore, it is better to take an umbrella with you or rent it here from one of the coastal restaurants.

Who it will suit

Ao Yon is suitable for those who like a quiet rest. The thing is that noisy bars and clubs are located very far - buzzing Patong is exactly on the opposite coast.

Ao Yon is preferred by Europeans, families with children, and elderly people. Keep in mind that you can swim here at any time of the year as there are no waves!

How to get here

Another nice feature of Cape Panwa is the wide, smooth roads and the almost complete lack of traffic. You can get to Ao Yon and Cape Panwa by public transport from Phuket Town. The journey takes about 20 minutes, and the cost of a songthaew is about 50 baht.

It will take about an hour on a taxi from Phuket International Airport to hotels in Panwa and the trip will cost about 900-1000 baht.

The most convenient method, it goes without saying, is to use a rented car or motorbike. This way the distance of Panwa from other locations on the island will not be an inconvenience for you.

To get to Ao Yon on a car, you will have to pay 200 baht. This is due to the fact that the road to the beach passes through private territories. But you can leave your car or bike in the parking lot along the main road and walk down the slope for about 200 meters. There are several slopes, all of them are asphalt and protected by shade.

Real Estate

There are several mini-hotels near Ao Yon beach directly on the first line. At Cape Panwa, you can rent apartments for short or long term periods - there are several low-rise residential multi-unit condominiums. Or you can opt for renting a villa with a private pool and sea views - on the east coast, on the slope of Panwa, there are luxury complexes with breathtaking views of the sea - perfect to enjoy sunrises.

So far, no new complexes under construction have been noticed in this area. But we are sure, that the popularity of this corner of Phuket will gradually grow!
