Freedom Beach — Phuket Area

Not all tourists know that right on the cape, next to the busiest, most crowded area of the island, there is a tiny secluded Freedom Beach. It is only 250 meters in length, one side borders with lush tropics, whereas the other - with sea and cliffs. During high tide, the coastline is about 30 meters in breadth. Tidal changes do not affect the depth and entry into the water - the entry is usually gentle and smooth.

There are several small coral reefs not far off the coast, making this beach a favorite spot for snorkelers.

Please note - the beach is considered private, so during high season you may be asked to pay 200 baht per person at the entrance. It is also prohibited to bring your own food and drinks (there are warning signs at the entrance).

On the left side (if facing the sea), there is a restaurant serving traditional Thai food tucked away in the shade of palms and trees. Pad Thai costs about 200 baht, a glass of local beer - 100 baht, and a can of cola 50 baht. The restaurant servers food from 9 am to 4 pm, then until sunset, you will be offered to buy drinks from the bar.

You can also relax on the sun loungers in the natural shade of the trees. The cost of renting one lounger will be 120 baht.

Most tourists visiting Freedom Beach prefer to sit in the shade of trees on their own beach mats and towels.

The most secluded part is on the right, behind the boulders. You can get there by swimming (the water usually goes only up to the knee) or by climbing over the stones. Be careful if you do decide to walk - the rocks can be slippery from the waves.

Despite the growing popularity, not everyone comes down to Freedom Beach. This is easy to explain - you can get here either by walking along a path through the jungle or by sea on a boat from Patong Beach. Boats are moored in the central part of Freedom beach, so the right and left parts are left for swimming.

Seasonality, waves

Freedom beach is located on the western coast of Phuket but is affected by waves only during strong monsoons in the summer months. In general - the water is calm and comfortable. 

The water here is crystal clear and glistens with turquoise hue, as there are no sudden changes in depths! Truly a tiny paradise in Phuket. 

The water temperature never goes below 26 degrees Celsius, even during the “cold” months, and reaches 32 degrees during the warm ones. 

Who it will suit

Freedom beach is ideal! There is white sand, calm sea, smooth entry, and lots of trees for natural shade. Therefore it will suit everyone without exception. It is primarily favored by young adults and snorkeling enthusiasts. The reason being that it is a bit hard to reach by car, and not a lot of people know that you can get here by boat. 

You can get to Freedom in two ways - walking through the jungle or on a boat from the neighboring beaches, such as Patong, Kata or Karon. 

If you decide to walk - from Patong beach, move towards Karon beach, and after a bit, following the signs, turn onto the gravel road. You’ll see parking right in front of you - follow the path into the forest. The entrance to the beach is open from 7:30-18:30. The price per person is 200 baht. The walk down the hill will take about 10 minutes, whereas the way back might take 15. 

If you decide to take a boat - check out Patong, Kata or Karon beaches. The price will be more or less the same - around 1500 baht per boat (includes the trip there and back). We recommend getting here as early as possible, as the majority of tourists get here at 11.

Real Estate 

As the beach is located right at the foot of a cliff, there are no condos or hotels right on it. Further away, however, you can find several hotels. The real estate located on the cliff area is called “The Millionaire’s Mile” - here you can purchase or rent high-class luxury villas. The views that unravel here are incredible! What can be better than living on the cliff with breathtaking views of the ocean and in perfect unison with the quiet tropics? 

Your neighbors will consist of international stars, actors, and singers. 

There are no condos or hotels in the mid-price range near Freedom beach.
