Surin sits just south of Bang Tao on the same west coast strip, but the feel is noticeably more residential. The bay is a small crescent of yellow sand backed by a public park and a single row of low rise buildings, since the beach umbrellas and large clubs were cleared by the authorities a few years ago. What remained is a quieter beach that locals and long-term foreign residents actually use in the late afternoon. The Surin neighbourhood spreads up the hill behind the beach, full of mid-sized private villas, small condo projects and a steady population of European and Russian families who chose the area over Bang Tao precisely because it is calmer. Day to day life leans on Surin Plaza for groceries and basic services, with Boat Avenue and Porto de Phuket reachable in under ten minutes by scooter. Schools are slightly further than from central Bang Tao but still inside a comfortable morning commute. The dining scene is small but well known, with Catch Beach Club at the Twinpalms resort just past the headland, plus Italian, Mediterranean and Thai seafood spots clustered along the main road.
